Tropical Storm Gabrielle once again weakened to a minimal tropical storm after hitting Bermuda Tuesday night. The storm had winds of 40 mph Wednesday evening, and was moving slowly west-northwest in the Atlantic Ocean about 100 miles WNW of Bermuda. The storm is expected to gradually turn to the north and make a run at the Canadian Maritimes as a tropical storm. It is not expected to strengthen considerably, with winds near 50 mph possible by Friday afternoon as it transitions to an extratropical cyclone.
The storm is not strong enough or close enough to have a direct impact in Southern New England. It’s only calling cards may be lingering showers on Friday morning as it interacts with a departing cold front, and a slight increase in the surf on Cape Cod and the islands. Offshore, seas may be 6-10 feet near Georges Bank, and 7-14 feet near the Nova Scotian Shelf
