October 2013 among driest on record in Providence

Southeastern New England has been in a mainly dry weather pattern since just after Labor Day Weekend. October rain totals in Providence and Boston are about 15% of normal through the 27th. Both cities have received roughly a half-inch of rain. The normal through October 26 is about 3.25″. There is no rain in the forecast for early in the week, but a disturbance moving through on Wednesday may bring showers. Even if the Wednesday showers materialize, it is possible that this month will be in the top 10 driest on record in Providence and Boston. If there is not measurable rain on Wednesday, and the next weather system holds off until Friday, then this month will be in the top 5 driest on record in Providence. Worcester and Hartford are both outside of the top 10 driest October on record.
