Peak wind gusts and damage reports November 18, 2013

A strong weather system brought a brief period of strong wind and heavy rain showers to Southern New England on Monday morning, November 18, 2013. 40-50 mph gusts arrived near dawn ahead of and during the heavy showers. The following are peak wind gust and damage reports sent into the NWS SKYWARN via amateur radio operators.

Wind Gust Measurement Reports (40 MPH or Greater):
Fall River, MA (Borden Flats): 49 MPH Gust at 600 AM/45 MPH Gust at 536 AM/44 MPH Gust 524 AM.
Fairhaven, MA (West Island South Point): 47 MPH Gust at 658 AM/41 MPH Gust at 545 AM
Warwick/Barrington, RI (Conimicut Point): 46 MPH Gust at 612 AM/43 MPH Gust at 606 AM/41 MPH Gust at 524 AM
Yarmouth, MA: 43 MPH Gust at 711 AM
Newport, RI: 41 MPH Gust at 712 AM

507 AM: Gill, MA: West Gill Road/South Cross Road – Transformer fire – isolated power outage
533 AM: Westport, MA: Large Branch down leaning into the roadway – route 6 east by White’s Restaurant
535 AM: Granville, MA: Tree down on one road
556 AM: West Stockbridge, MA: Large Tree down blocking Road
617 AM: Mattapoisett, MA: Large Branch down on Angelica Avenue and a small power outage in another part of Mattapoisett in the area of Ash Terrace and Bayberry Lane
643 AM: Antrim, NH: Tree on the Wires burning on Old Concord Road
643 AM: Marlow, NH: Live Wires Down on Sand Pond Road
