Storm Timeline: Providence Metro Area

A moderate winter storm will hit Southern New England this weekend. The stage will be set by some very cold air in place during the day Saturday. The temperature will slowly climb from the teens to the 20s with snow developing in the afternoon or early evening. The snow will become steadier, and possibly heavy at times, Saturday evening as the storm moves closer to Southern New England.

It looks like the storm will come close enough to the coast to draw in some milder air late Saturday night. A change from snow to mixed precipitation and rain is likely near the coast, and possible in Providence. There will be accumulating snow before the change happens. A lighter wintry mix will linger Sunday until mid-morning on Sunday before the storm moves away and colder air returns. The temperature will fall back below freezing Sunday afternoon or early in the evening.
