Mild Saturday; Cooler and Dry Sunday

The record low temperature was tied in Providence Friday morning. The temperature dipped to 12° at TF Green Airport, tying the record set in 1948. The afternoon, while not as cold as Thursday, was still chilly for mid-March, with highs in the mid 30s under sunshine filtered through thin clouds.

It will not be cold Friday night. The temperature will be in the low to mid 30s in the evening before rising to near 40° by dawn on Saturday. Clouds will increase, and scattered rain showers are possible by dawn. There will be a 5-15 mph southerly breeze. Scattered showers are possible Saturday morning as a cold front passes Southern New England. The shower threat diminishes in the afternoon, with some sunshine in the forecast. It will be much warmer, with highs in the mid 50s.

Cooler weather will settle in for the second half of the weekend. The temperature will drop into the mid to upper 20s Saturday night, and rebound into the upper 30s on Sunday afternoon. It will be partly to mostly sunny and breezy.

Snow cannot be ruled out on St. Patrick’s Day, but, right now, it looks like the bulk of the steady snow will stay south of Southern New England in the Mid-Atlantic states. Look for mostly cloudy skies with the chance of snow showers or flurries Sunday night into Monday morning. It will be chilly, with lows in the 20s, and highs only in the low 30s on Monday. It should become partly to mostly cloudy in the afternoon. We will keep you posted on any changes to this forecast over the weekend.

Tuesday will be mostly sunny, but chilly. Highs will be 10-15° colder than normal – in the mid to upper 30s. It will gradually get milder through the midweek, with increasing clouds, and showers possible by Thursday.
