Rivers Rise Rapidly During Heavy Rain

Southern New England rivers rose very quickly Saturday night into Sunday morning as several inches of rain fell in Rhode Island, Southeastern Massachusetts, and Eastern Connecticut. Most major rivers were not expected to see more than minor flooding. Several smaller rivers and streams overflowed their banks leading to localized flooding of parks and streets.

The graphics below are updated hydrographs for some of the bigger rivers in Southeastern New England. Notice how quickly the rivers rose during the heavy rain Saturday night. Some include flooding forecasts from the National Weather Service. Click here for an interactive map.
