A Glance at the Week Ahead

Quiet and seasonable weather will be a theme for most of the workweek in Southern New England. There will be a relatively cool pool of air over New England early in the week. Monday will feature sunshine through mid-morning, with clouds building during the afternoon. It will be slightly cool for early May, with highs in the low 60s. There will be a 10-25 mph northwesterly breeze.

The weather will not change much on Tuesday. Once again, it will be partly to mostly sunny, with a northwest breeze and highs in the 60s. It should be 2-4° warmer than Monday on Tuesday afternoon. Low temperatures Monday and Tuesday night will be in the low 40s – also cool for early May.

Wednesday should be a fine day with lighter winds and plenty of sunshine. A sea breeze will kick in during the afternoon, and high temperatures will reach the mid to upper 60s inland, and low 60s near the coast.

An approaching warm front may trigger showers on Thursday. At this point, the exact timing of the showers is questionable, and it’s possible they will hold off until Friday. If the showers arrive on Thursday, it will be much cooler, with highs only in the 50s.

There will be several disturbances moving through the Northeast late in the workweek and into next weekend. Showers are likely from time to time Friday and/or Saturday, but, right now, it’s difficult to say exactly when they will happen. With a little luck, Southern New England will be between rainy weather systems on Mother’s Day. The forecast temperatures for Friday and next weekend are also tricky since they are highly dependent on wind direction and cloud cover. An easterly breeze at this time of the year will keep the temperature in the 50s, while a southwest breeze and sunshine will get it into 70s. We will keep you updated on this important forecast as the week progresses.
