Southern New England got a late-day taste of slightly better weather on Thursday. The sun broke through the clouds from time to time away from the coast as the temperature climbed into the low to mid 60s. It was cloudier, damp, and cooler near the coast. There will be patchy fog Thursday evening, but skies will begin clearing late at night. Lows Friday morning will be close to 50.
Friday looks like the nicest day of the week. There may be some early clouds, and possibly a stray shower, but it will become partly to mostly sunny by midday with highs in the low to mid 60s. There will be a 10-25 mph west-southwest breeze. The weekend weather will not be stellar by early May standards. It will be a bit cooler than normal, and showers are possible, especially on Sunday.
Saturday looks partly cloudy with the outside chance of a pop-up shower, primarily away from the coast. Highs will only be in the upper 50s to low 60s – about 5 degrees below normal for the date. A strong cold front will move through on Sunday. Showers are likely, especially in the afternoon. It will be brisk and cool, with the temperature in the upper 50s to low 60s. If the timing of the front is right, there could be thunderstorms with gusty winds and hail. If the front comes through early in the day there is a lower chance of that happening. A later frontal passage increases the odds of thunderstorms developing. Low temperatures over the weekend will be in the 40s.
It will be on the cool side early next week. Highs will struggle to reach 60 on Monday and Tuesday. Both days look partly cloudy. Wednesday should be in the 60s before showers threaten late in the workweek.
