Pleasant Weather Through the Midweek

Cinco de Mayo was partly to mostly cloudy, breezy, and seasonable in Southern New England. The temperature reached 65° in Providence, which is normal for early May. There were a few stray showers in far Eastern Massachusetts. The weather looks pretty nice through the midweek, with less wind by Wednesday, and near to slight above normal temperatures.

It will become mainly clear to partly cloudy Monday night. Lows will be in the low to mid 40s with a light northwesterly breeze around 5 mph. Tuesday will be partly sunny and breezy, with highs in the mid to upper 60s. There will be a 10-20 mph northwest wind.

High pressure will move in on Wednesday, and the wind should relax late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. A sea breeze may kick in during the afternoon. Highs will be in the mid 60s near the coast, and close to 70 inland with mostly sunny skies on Wednesday.

A slow-moving warm front will get close to Southern New England on Thursday. Right now, it looks like it will stay west of Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts, and the weather will likely stay mainly dry, but it will be considerably cool on Thursday. Highs may not reach 60° with a southerly breeze and partly to mostly cloudy skies.

The warm front may get hung up over Southern New England on Friday. Showers are possible, and temperatures will likely be relatively cool (in the 50s) with an east-southeast wind and plenty of clouds.

The speed of a cold front is key for the weekend weather in Southern New England. At this early stage it looks like Saturday will be mainly dry, breezy, and mild. The best chance of rain seems to be Saturday night into Sunday morning, with dry and warm conditions possible during the afternoon on Mother’s Day. If the front moves offshore quickly enough on Sunday, then highs could reach the 70s.
