The workweek will get off to an active start in Southern New England. Showers and thunderstorms will roll through Southeastern New England Monday morning, and there could be some strong to severe storms with frequent lightning, torrential downpours, hail, and strong winds. The timing of the storms looks like 5-10 am in Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts. A break in the action is likely around midday before another line of showers and thunderstorms develops over interior Southern New England in the afternoon. It is unclear if that line of storms will extend far enough south to impact RI and SE MA.
Skies will become partly cloudy around midday Monday after the first line of storms moves north of the area. It will be breezy to windy in the afternoon and evening. Highs will be in the upper 70s to low 80s, and it will stay humid through the day. The shower and thunderstorm threat ends Monday evening as a cold front moves offshore. It will turn less humid late at night with lows in the low 60s.
The weather looks rather quiet through the midweek. Highs will be in the low 80s, and lows will be in the low 60s. Skies will be partly cloudy to mainly clear Tuesday through Thursday. More clouds, and possibly a few showers, are in the forecast as we head into next weekend. We’ll continue to fine tune that part of the forecast in the coming days.
