A colder weather pattern will take hold in the Northeast in the upcoming week. The temperature will fall into the low to mid 30s by dawn on Monday under partly to mostly cloudy skies. There will be a blend of sun and clouds on Monday, with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s. Clouds may be a bit stubborn near the coast.
The cold surge continues through the New Year’s festivities. Tuesday will be partly cloudy with lows in the low to mid 20s, and highs in the low 30s. It will feel 5-10° colder because of a northwest breeze. Wednesday morning will start with temperatures in the mid teens to low 20s. Even with a lot of sunshine, the highs will only be in the low to mid 30s.
If you’re heading out on New Year’s Eve, you will need to bundle up. The temperature will be in the low to mid 20s at midnight under mainly clear skies. It will be just as cold in New York City and Boston. There will be plenty of sunshine on New Year’s Day, but it will stay cold, with highs in the low to mid 30s. Friday looks dry and chilly, too.
Looking ahead to next weekend, there is a lot of uncertainty about the potential for a storm in Southern New England. It looks like there will be some precipitation, but the storm’s timing and track is questionable. Right now, our best estimate is for a storm that brings mainly rain to Southeastern New England, with the chance of some wintry precipitation north and west Saturday night into Sunday. There’s a long way to go, and we’ll keep you posted.
