Scattered Severe Storms Possible Tuesday
A strong cold front will move through New England on Tuesday. The potential exists for strong to severe thunderstorms in most of Southern New England. The greatest risk of seeing severe storms is in Northern CT and Central/Western MA. There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms in Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts. The risk is lower for Cape Cod and the islands. The day will start with partly sunny skies. The temperature will climb into the mid 70s near the coast, and low 80s inland by midday. The wind will increase to 10-25 mph out of the southwest by early in the afternoon. Clouds will increase during the afternoon, and that may help to limit the risk of thunderstorms in RI and SE MA. The best chance of seeing showers/storms is late in the day through early in the evening.
The front will move offshore Tuesday night, and nice weather is ahead for the midweek. Wednesday looks mostly sunny and seasonable. Highs will be near 80 inland, and in the 70s at the coast with sea breeze. After a sunny start, clouds will increase Thursday afternoon. A stray shower is possible by late in the day. Highs will be in the upper 70s to low 80s.
A storm system may brush by Southern New England late Thursday night through Friday morning. Showers are possible from late at night through the morning. It will become drier in the afternoon. Friday does not look as warm, with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s. Fair weather is likely on Saturday. It will not be particularly warm, with highs in the mid to upper 70s.
We’re still watching the potential for rain on Sunday. It’s still early, but it seems unlikely that the entire day will be dry. A slow-moving storm system over the Mid-Atlantic may send showers into Southern New England for all or some of the day. It looks rather cool, with highs struggling to reach 70 due to an easterly breeze and mostly cloudy skies.
