Long-Range Forecast – February 22

I think we can all agree that the groundhog was wrong this year. While this February has not been nearly as brutal as last year, it certainly has not been an early spring. The monthly temperature is running near normal, and there has been a decent amount of snow. Looking ahead, the pattern is likely to stay seasonable and somewhat stormy through the first week of March.

Seasonable weather in early March is not always a good thing. The normal high is in the low to mid 40s, and storms will likely threaten RI and SE MA with rain, snow, and mixed precipitation depending on the track.

After a big midweek rainmaker, the weather will be benign through the weekend into early next week. Temperatures will not stray too far from normal Friday through Sunday. A few showers are possible in the middle of next week as a front passes. A stronger storm that looks like it will bring more rain than snow could arrive by the end of next workweek. The first weekend of March looks seasonably cool – more like late-winter than early spring.
