There will be a few snow showers around to make it seem more festive from tonight through Monday. The precipitation looks very light, and most places will probably see a coating or no snow accumulation. A few spots could pick up an inch – especially on grass/decks instead of roads. The threat of light snow begins late this evening in southwest CT and overspreads the rest of the state plus Rhode Island and eastern Massachusetts after midnight. A coating-1″ of snow is possible by dawn. Off and on snow showers and flurries may mix with rain near the coast on Monday. I do not expect any snow accumulation during the day on Monday. As the system departs Monday evening, another round of light snow/flurries is possible, and that could lead to a coating of snow as the temperature falls a few degrees.
This is not the kind of system that should cause big travel problems late tonight or during the day tomorrow. If the snow showers are robust enough to coat or wet the ground tomorrow evening, you may want to throw out some salt/deicer since temps will be falling overnight. The threat of any snow showers or flurries ends by midnight.
Christmas Day looks quiet with some sunshine and temps in the mid to upper 30s. The weather stays quiet through the midweek. It looks like a mainly rain storm later in the week.
