August 19 – Unsettled midweek; Weekend cool-down
Thunderstorms rolled through most of CT and part of RI and SE MA on Monday during a hot and humid afternoon. The weather stays hot and humid on Tuesday, but there is a lower risk of storms. Most should stay dry with highs in the low 90s inland and 80s coast.
This is just a quick update on the weather as I’m in central Pennsylvania dropping off our middle child at Bucknell University.
The thunderstorm threat increases again on Wednesday as a front approaches from the west. It will be very humid, but not as warm as there will be clouds developing early enough in the day to prevent the temperature from getting to 90. Look for highs in the 80s, with the best chance of storms from midday through the afternoon.
There is a low risk of showers and thunderstorms on Thursday, and it will still be very warm and humid. It starts to get drier after another front moves through late Thursday night into early Friday. A few showers cannot be ruled out on Friday morning, but most of the day looks dry. Expect highs in the upper 70s to low 80s.
Saturday will be seasonable, with highs in the upper 70s and partly cloudy skies. Sunday may feature a few pop-up showers – especially in Eastern MA. Look for a cooler feel with highs in the 70s. The temperature will dip into the 50s at night from Saturday night through the middle of next week. The coolest mornings will likely be Monday and Tuesday. It looks like a few towns could reach the upper 40s! Mainly dry weather is likely between Monday and Wednesday of next week.
The temperature in the last week of August looks near-normal. It may get relatively warm again for the start of September. The tropics are still quiet, and there is not likely to be anything of significance forming in the next five days.
