September 26 – Showers Thursday night; Warm and then cool pattern

There has not been much rain for most of Southern New England this month, so we’ll take anything we can get. Showers with possible thunderstorms will roll through Southern New England Thursday evening as a cool front passes by. It does not look like a big soaking, with less than 0.25″ rain likely in most towns. We’ll get back to dry weather on Friday, and there’s not much rain in the forecast for the next 7-10 days.

A line of showers moves through New England Thursday evening

Expect dry and seasonably warm weather between Friday and at least early Tuesday. The only chance of a few showers in the next several days is Saturday night as a cold front passes. It looks like most of the rain will stay north of Southern New England. We’ll have a few days with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s – great weather for late-September.

A generally dry weather pattern continues for the next couple of weeks

A warm front could bring showers early Tuesday as another surge of unseasonably warm air tries to move into Southern New England. It’s early, but it looks like it may be in the 80s on Wednesday. A sharp cold front and cool area of high pressure may arrive by late next week. It probably will not bring much rain, but there should be a noticeable cooldown that may last for several days. Given the recent warm weather, the cool shot may seem a little worse than it actually is, given that the normal high in early October is in the mid-upper 60s.

Cool air should arrive in New England by the first weekend of October

The tropics are sort of active. Karen is barely hanging on to tropical storm strength, and likely will not impact land. Lorenzo could become a major hurricane, but is no threat to land for the next several days. If anything, it could reach the Azores.
