September 29 – Multiple rain chances ahead

Much-needed rain is heading for Southern New England in the next week. The first storm system will arrive Tuesday and last into Wednesday morning. Moderate to heavy rain is likely in Connecticut with generally lighter amounts moving east through Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts. Rain totals will range from 1-2″ in CT to 0.5-1″ in RI and 0.25-0.5″ in Southeastern MA.

Rain may be heavy at times early Wednesday

Rain ends Wednesday morning to midday and there will be a break in the action through Thursday into Friday morning. Rain returns from west to east on Friday. It may not arrive in RI and SE MA until late in the day. Rain moves out by early Saturday and the weekend looks dry.

Rain returns Friday afternoon/evening

It’s still early, but it looks like another storm may bring rain early next week. There’s about a 40% chance of another 0.5″+ rain event in Southern New England. If that storm develops, there is a good chance rain totals in the next 7 days will be approximately 1-2.5″ throughout Southern New England, with the higher amounts likely in Connecticut.

Looking far down the road, the weather pattern looks drier for the second week of October. With that in mind, here’s hoping the Monday storm system develops close enough to bring beneficial rain to Southern New England.
