Analysis

Dry Thursday; Unsettled Weekend

Thursday will be mostly sunny in the morning, and partly to mostly cloudy by late in the afternoon. Highs will be in the low 80s inland, and 70s near the coast. A stray evening shower cannot be ruled out, especially away from the coast.

A storm system passing south of New England will bring a few showers late Thursday night into Friday morning. The best chance of steady rain early Friday is near the coast. It will become partly to mostly cloudy in the afternoon, with highs in the 70s.

The weekend will start with dry weather, but don’t expect it to last. Lows will be in the 50s Saturday morning with mainly clear to partly cloudy skies at dawn. Clouds will increase Saturday afternoon, and rain may arrive by sunset. Showers, heavy at times, are likely Saturday night into Sunday morning.

The latest trends are for the steady rain to move through the area by mid-morning on Sunday, and the afternoon looks drier, with possibly a bit of sunshine. It will get muggy on Sunday as the dew point climbs into the 60s. High temperatures are highly contingent on how much sunshine breaks through in the afternoon. It could reach the 80s if we get enough blue sky, and it could stay in the 60s if clouds are stubborn. We’ll fine-tune this forecast in the next couple of days.

The weather looks fairly quiet early next week. Highs will be near 80 on Monday and Tuesday, and lows will be in the 60s – just about normal for this time of the year.
