The muggiest weather of the summer arrived in Southern New England on Tuesday. Dew points in the low 70s will have it feeling oppressively humid through at least midday Wednesday. Scattered thunderstorms are possibly Wednesday as a cold front moves through.
TUESDAY NIGHT
It will be warm and very humid Tuesday night. An evening shower or thunderstorm is possible north and west of I-95. Patchy fog will develop, especially near the coast, and the low temperature will be in the low 70s – crank up the A/C!
WEDNESDAY
Low clouds and fog will burn off to hazy sunshine. An approaching cold front will trigger scattered showers and thunderstorms from late morning through the afternoon. The best chance of seeing thunderstorms is if the clouds clear early in the day and the temperature rises into the mid to upper 80s. The higher temperature near the ground will help to destabilize the atmosphere. The thunderstorm threat ends around sunset, and the wind will shift to the northeast overnight, bringing in much less humid weather for Thursday.
THURSDAY
The front that passes through on Wednesday will get hung up on the coast, and a wave of low pressure will ride along it on Thursday. That will help to keep the sky mostly cloudy, and a few showers are possible – especially near the coast. It will be noticeably cooler, with highs in the 70s. A second round of rain is possible Thursday night into early Friday. The wind will be light and out of the northeast.
FRIDAY
We should see increasing sunshine on Friday. The temperature will respond, with highs in the low 80s inland, and upper 70s near the coast. It will not be very humid.
WEEKEND
The weekend is shaping up to be dry and warm. We expect highs in the mid to upper 80s inland, and near 80 at the beach. Skies will be mostly sunny. The nights will be mild, but not unbearably humid. Lows will be in the low to mid 60s – just about normal for mid-July.
