Event Forecast: Providence Marathon & Rhode Races

If you asked me what weather would be perfect for the ninth annual Providence Marathon on Sunday, May 1, I would’ve told you “cloudy, near 50, with a light tailwind for the runners heading back to Providence on the bike path”. It looks like I, and more than 1,000 other marathoners, may get my wish on Sunday.

A storm system will be approaching from the west Sunday morning, but it looks like rain will hold off until at least late in the morning. When the rain arrives, it will likely not be heavy, and should not be an impediment for any runners still on the course. The temperature will be comfortably cool, and a southeast breeze between 6-12 mph should develop during the morning. A few sunny breaks are possible before 10 am, but for the most part it looks cloudy.

The Marathon will start at 7:30 a.m. in Downtown Providence, Rhode Island. The Half Marathon will start at 8:00 a.m. from the same place. The 5k will follow at 8:15 am and the kids race with take off at 8:20 – all from the same great downtown running festival.
