January 14 – Few thoughts on Sunday storm
The hype machine may already be whirring for the weekend storm potential in Southern New England. Unfortunately for snow-lovers, the early projections are not favorable for a big snow event in RI, CT or eastern MA. The storm will likely pass close enough to the coast that any snow changes to sleet and possibly to rain in in most of Southern New England south of the MA Pike.
Keep in mind, it’s still early with the first flakes not coming until Saturday night. At this point, I favor a minor/moderate snow impact before a change to sleet. The best chance of a few inches of snow before sleet is north and west of the I-95 corridor.
I am traveling on Monday and may not have a chance to give another update, but there are still several days to sort this thing out. Here’s how it looks from Saturday night to late Sunday via the European model.
