The annual Flames of Hope weekend is nearly upon us, and, for the most part, it looks like the weather will cooperate with the many outdoor activities. We’ll focus on Saturday and Sunday, since that is when most of the outdoor events will be happening.
Saturday
It will be a mild start with lots of sunshine in the mid to late morning. The temperature will climb into the low 70s by noon when the festivities begin, and may top out in the mid 70s if the sun sticks around until mid-afternoon. The key to Saturday’s forecast is how quickly a front approaches Southern New England. Right now, it looks like it will hold off until late in the day or during the evening, and that will allow for just some increasing clouds late in the day. The temperature should fall back into the 60s.
There is the chance of a passing shower in the late-afternoon or evening as that front comes through. The front shouldn’t be carrying an awful lot of rain, so it’s not a lock that it will rain in Providence. The Illuminations of Life ceremony is at 630 pm – it’s around that time that there could be a shower. Sunset is at 6:20 pm.
The temperature will fall on a northwesterly breeze after the front passes. Look for it to be in the low to mid 50s by late in the evening when the Waterfire wraps up.
Sunday
The main events Sunday are the Gloria Gemma 5K and the kids 1K. Although Sunday will not be a great day, it looks like the best part of the day will be during those races in the mid to late morning. The temperature will be in the mid 50s with mostly cloudy skies late in the morning. There will be a light northerly breeze. It’s actually pretty nice running weather, and a lot better than it will be later in the day when rain arrives and the temperature drops.
