PatsCast: Cold windy AFC Championship game

Patriots vs. Ravens at Gillette Stadium for a trip to the Super Bowl. It has a familiar ring to it. Last year the Pats escaped with a 23-20 win thanks to a sterling play by Moore, and a duck hook on a late field goal attempt by Billy Cundiff. For those that were there, you probably remember the fresh snow in the parking lots from the storm that delivered about 4″ the day before. The high temperature on game day was only in the low 30s in Foxboro, and it was in the 20s during the game. Remember, last year was the early game with a 3 pm kickoff, this year the kickoff is at 6:30 pm.

This year’s high temperature will be in the low 40s, but a poorly-timed cold front will have the wind gusting and temperatures dropping during the game. It will be a far cry from last week’s near-perfect mid-January conditions. It will be partly cloudy, and the wind will be coming across the field from west to east. The open end of the stadium faces north, and with a 15-30 mph west-northwest wind forecast, we expect it to be a factor – especially in the kicking game.
