The computer model information received Wednesday evening did not do much to change our opinion on the potential for a major Nor’easter (possible blizzard) in Southern New England Friday into Saturday. At a minimum, it will be the biggest snow storm of the season to date. If it reaches its full potential, it will be one of the largest snow storms to hit Southern New England in years, and possibly decades.

Thursday will be quiet and cold, with the temperature climbing from the mid to upper teens early in the day, to the mid to upper 20s in the afternoon under mostly sunny skies. Clouds will increase Thursday night, and the temperature will fall into the low 20s by late in the evening before leveling off or rising a bit by dawn. Some snow showers or flurries may break out late at night.
The first part of the storm arrives early Friday with some light to moderate snow and/or rain likely from the morning through the afternoon. The intensity of the precipitation will increase in the evening, and any mix or rain should transition to snow from north to south in RI and SE MA. The worst of the storm will be from late Friday evening through Saturday morning.
As the storm intensifies south of Nantucket, the wind will increase drastically near the coast. 60+ mph peak gusts are likely at some point at the coast of RI and in SE MA. Snow will continue through Saturday morning before ending Saturday afternoon. Some coastal flooding is also likely – primarily in Eastern MA due to the strong and persistent NE winds. The temperature will plummet from the 20s to the single digits by late Saturday night.
