It is largely a case of “what you see is what you get” for Southern New England weather-wise into early next week. Clouds will be stubborn through Sunday afternoon with high temperatures running it a bit below normal in the upper 30s to low 40s. A few passing snow flurries are possible Sunday afternoon and night.
Monday and Tuesday will both be mostly cloudy with highs around 40, and lows in the mid to upper 20s. The wind will shift from the northwest on Monday to the northeast by late Tuesday as a storm develops over the Mid-Atlantic states. Some thick low clouds and flurries/drizzle may develop on the northeasterly breeze late Tuesday into Tuesday night.
Big Mid-Atlantic storm may miss New England
The storm over the Mid-Atlantic will move into the Atlantic Ocean by late Wednesday. The persistent northeasterly breeze will keep it cloudy and cool in Southern New England. Once again, some flurries, showers, or drizzle are possible due to the wind direction and time of year.
Right now, it looks like there will not be more than fringe effects from the storm as it passes well south of Southern New England Wednesday night through Thursday. Based on the current projected track, the main impacts would be gusty, but not damaging, northeasterly winds, some clouds and rain/snow showers, and tides running a bit higher than normal. If the powerful storm tracks closer, the impacts will increase across the board for Southern New England. One thing is certain regarding the mid to late workweek forecast, there is no big warm-up ahead. Temperatures will struggle to get above the low 40s through next Friday.
