Dry, windy, and cool weather continued in Southern New England on Wednesday. The temperature reached the low to mid 40s in the afternoon, but a 20-40 mph wind had it feeling like the low 30s. The gusty wind and dry weather is leading to elevated brush fire concerns. The wind will diminish to 5-15 mph Wednesday night, and the temperature will fall into the mid 20s to low 30s by dawn Thursday under clear skies. The weather will be similarly cool, clear, and brisk at Yankee Stadium for the Red Sox vs Yankees on Wednesday evening. Thursday should be a nice day, with sunshine and highs in the low 50s. The wind will increase to 10-20 mph and swing around to the west-southwest in the afternoon.
Showers near the coast Friday
A storm will move from the Florida Panhandle late Thursday to the Atlantic Ocean south of Southern New England on Friday. It looks like the storm will be just far enough away to spare most of Southern New England several hours of steady rain. The best chance of seeing rain is on Cape Cod and the Islands. The coast of RI and Buzzards bay could pick up some showers during the day. Farther inland, there will be a lower impact, with just the chance of a few showers in Providence and Boston. The areas that see thicker clouds and steady rain will have a temperature in the upper 40s to low 50s. Inland locations should be in the low to mid 50s with some sunshine north and west of I-95.
Nice weekend, warmer next week
The weekend looks decent. Saturday should be mostly sunny and seasonable. Highs will be in the low 50s with a 10-15 mph westerly wind. Sunday will be similar, with more clouds by late in the day. Highs Sunday will be in the low to mid 50s inland, and close to 50 near the coast because of the onshore breeze. Monday and/or Tuesday will likely be the warmest day of the year so far. The timing on a couple of weather systems will be key, but it looks like the temperature will jump well into the 60s on Monday and/or Tuesday afternoon depending on the amount of sunshine and wind direction.
