The long stretch of dry weather in Southern New England will come to an end on Wednesday as a slow-moving area of low pressure drifts north from the Mid-Atlantic states. Clouds will thicken Tuesday night, with some patchy fog developing near the coast. The low temperature will be in the upper 40s to low 50s.
There will be plenty of clouds on Wednesday, and showers will blossom over Southern New England by late in the morning. Scattered showers, with the chance of thunderstorms, are in the forecast for the afternoon. The showers/storms may contain small hail due to the relatively cool air at high levels of the atmosphere. The high temperature on Wednesday will be in the low to mid 60s. There will be a southeasterly breeze of 10-20 mph near the coast.
The weather system will hang around Wednesday night through Thursday, and the shower threat continues in that timeframe. The best chance of showers on Thursday is through midday, with the storm moving into Northern New England by late in the day. Highs will be in the low to mid 60s again on Thursday.
There will be a brief break in the action on Friday, and it may turn out to be a rather warm day in Southern New England. Look for partly to mostly sunny skies, with highs in the low to mid 70s inland. It will be in the mid to upper 60s near the coast. Friday evening looks rain-free and mild, but an approaching front will bring the threat of showers back to Southern New England by Saturday morning.
The weekend looks unsettled. Showers are likely on Saturday – especially away from the coast. The best chance of staying dry on Saturday is on Cape Cod. Highs will be in the 60s on Saturday. The front will slowly crawl across New England Saturday night into Mother’s Day. Right now, it looks like there will be some steady rain Saturday night, followed by the chance of showers lingering through Sunday morning. Some afternoon sunshine is possible on Sunday, but it is highly dependent on the speed of the passing front.
The weather behind the front will be unseasonably cool, but dry, Monday and Tuesday. Lows will be in the 30s, and highs near 60 under partly sunny skies. A gusty northerly breeze will make it feel a bit cooler – especially early and late in the day.
