May is running a bit warmer and much drier than normal in Southern New England. The recent rain helped to dent the moderate drought conditions that are being felt in most of CT, W MA, and W RI. The pattern over the next couple of weeks will bring occasional wet weather systems into the Northeast, but we don’t see it being quite as wet as the Climate Prediction Center is forecasting. Their call is for above normal precipitation in the 8-14 day timeframe, we see the next two weeks as a bit drier than normal – but wetter than the previous three weeks.
We also do not see any huge, extended warm-ups in the forecast for Southern New England. There will be some relatively warm days (it is mid-May), but we don’t see a 2-3 day stretch with highs in the 80s inland anytime soon.
