Chance of thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon

Southern New England saw another drenching rainfall Monday night. Most of RI and SE MA received 1.5-2.0″ of rain from late Monday afternoon to late Monday night. After briefly receding, area rivers like the Pawcatuck in Westerly, RI, and Pawtuxet in Cranston, RI, began to experience minor flooding again. Just one-third of the way through the month, June 2013 is already among the wettest on record in the Providence area.

After a cloudy, foggy start, there may be a bit of midday sun on Tuesday before clouds redevelop and another round of showers and thunderstorms takes aim at CT, RI, and MA. The timing of the showers and storms is between 2-5 pm in CT and W MA, and between 4-8 pm in RI and SE MA. It will be muggiest near the coast on Tuesday due to an onshore wind. With the lack of sunshine, it will not be a particularly warm day – most areas should see highs within a few degrees of 70.

The chance of showers and thunderstorms continues through the evening, with drier air moving in after midnight. There may be some breaks in the cloud cover by early Wednesday morning. Lows will be near 60. Wednesday looks partly sunny and mild, but not particularly warm, with highs in the low 70s.

Another rainmaker late in the workweek

Yet another storm bears down on the Northeast late Thursday into Friday
Yet another storm bears down on the Northeast late Thursday into Friday

Thursday will start out nice, but clouds will increase in advance of the next rainmaker that will arrive late Thursday and continue into early Friday. Look for partly to mostly sunny skies in the morning, followed by thickening clouds and the chance of rain by mid to late afternoon. Highs will be in the low 70s. A storm system cutting just south of Southern New England has the potential to bring another soaking rain Thursday night through Friday morning. 1-2″ of rain is possible in Southern New England. It will be unseasonably cool, with the temperature staying in the 50s to low 60s on Friday. Any steady rain should end by mid-afternoon.

The forecast for the Father’s Day weekend is still decent. Skies should clear Friday night, and both Saturday and Sunday looks mostly sunny and seasonable. Highs will be in the mid to upper 70s inland, and low to mid 70s at the coast. Low temperatures will be in the mid to upper 50s, and it won’t be very humid.
