There were a lot of “very warm and muggy” forecasts floating around for Tuesday on other media outlets. At Right Weather, we were fairly confident that the wind direction out of the west-southwest was going to keep the humidity low inland as the temperature rose well into the 80s. That is exactly what has happened, with dew points in the 50s to low 60s inland. As of 2 pm, the dew point in Providence was 56° meaning there was no mugginess in the air. The air temperature was 85°, and that’s exactly how it felt.
Closer to the coast where the wind is onshore, the dew points are in the low to mid 60s, but it’s not very warm with temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s. As mentioned yesterday, the humidity will build slowly this week. Wednesday looks similar to Tuesday. It will not be oppressively humid. The muggy weather will arrive in earnest Wednesday night into Thursday as the wind swings around to the southwest. Thursday and Thursday night look like the muggiest weather of the week, with dew points in the mid to upper 60s. A cold front will sweep the humidity away by late Friday.
