After a rainy start September turned quite dry with well below normal precipitation for the last four weeks of the month in Southern New England. Providence (TF Green) actually goes in the books with a wetter (4.59″) than normal (3.92″) month thanks to a very unsettled Labor Day weekend when nearly 3.6″ of rain fell over three days from September 1-3. As you can see from the graphic, however,most of Southern New England, except for part of RI, had a dry month. TF Green has only received one inch of rain since September 3.
Temperature-wise, it was the second straight cooler than normal month in Southern New England. The temperature averaged 1.3° below normal in Providence. There were only four days above 80°, and one above 90°. On the flip side, the temperature dropped below 50° at TF Green Airport on 13 days. That is more September days below 50° in Providence in, at least, the last 25 years. (The government shutdown prevented us from using their website to research the records before 1988.)
